Furnace and AC Tune-Ups in Thornton and North Denver

We are a locally owned HVAC company that publishes its full tune-up checklist up front, so you can book a furnace or AC tune-up knowing exactly what the technician will test instead of paying for an unexplained multi-point inspection.

Here Is Exactly What We Check, Before You Book

A tune-up is a safety check first and an efficiency check second. Our technicians work through a written inspection on every visit, take readings on the equipment, and tell you what those readings mean in plain terms. If something is worn but still working, you hear that too, along with what it would cost to address now versus what it tends to cost when it fails in January.

  • NATE-certified technicians on every maintenance visit
  • 5-star average across 280 Google reviews
  • Locally owned and operated in Thornton since 2012
  • Owner Jason Van Orden has more than 20 years in the trade
  • Free estimates on replacement if a tune-up turns up equipment at the end of its life

We service Thornton, Northglenn, Brighton, Broomfield, Denver, and Commerce City.

What a Furnace Tune Up Includes

A heating visit covers combustion safety, the parts that fail under load, and the readings that show whether the furnace is running the way it was designed to run. Here is the full list:

  • Inspecting the heat exchanger for cracks
  • Testing carbon monoxide levels and verifying safe combustion
  • Checking gas pressure and gas piping connections
  • Cleaning the burners and flame sensor
  • Testing ignition and all safety controls
  • Inspecting the blower and airflow components
  • Checking electrical connections and voltage
  • Inspecting the venting and flue
  • Verifying thermostat operation
  • Measuring temperature rise across the heat exchanger
  • Checking the air filter and its fit

If the inspection turns up a cracked heat exchanger, a carbon monoxide reading, or a failed safety control, we stop and walk you through it before anything else happens. If the furnace is already short-cycling, blowing cold air, or not starting at all, a repair visit is the right call instead.

What an AC Tune Up Includes

Most summer failures show up as a reading in spring. A cooling visit measures the refrigerant side, the electrical side, and the drainage that causes shutdowns in the middle of a heat wave:

  • Checking refrigerant pressure and verifying the charge
  • Inspecting the system for refrigerant leaks
  • Measuring superheat and subcool
  • Cleaning the condenser coil
  • Inspecting the evaporator coil and blower
  • Testing the capacitor and contactor
  • Measuring voltage and amperage draw
  • Flushing the condensate drain and testing the float switch
  • Verifying thermostat operation
  • Checking airflow and overall cooling performance

A weak capacitor, a low charge, a coil packed with cottonwood, and a clogged condensate line account for a large share of the calls we take in July. All four are visible on a spring visit. If your air conditioner is already running and not cooling, start with AC repair.

When to Schedule a Tune Up in Colorado

Schedule the furnace tune-up in early fall, before the heating season starts, and the AC tune-up in spring, before the first hot stretch. Our swing seasons are the reason for that timing. A system can sit idle for weeks and then get asked for full output the same afternoon a cold front or a 95-degree day arrives, and that first hard run is when a marginal part gives out.

Booking ahead of the season also means you are not waiting behind emergency calls. Once the first cold snap hits, repair volume takes priority, and maintenance appointments move out.

What a Furnace Tune Up Costs

The VO Comfort Club covers two professional tune-ups a year, one for heating and one for cooling, at $350 a year. That is the number, and it includes more than the visits:

Documented Maintenance Keeps Your Parts Warranty Solid

High-efficiency furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps generally carry a 10-year limited parts warranty, and manufacturers set conditions on it: professional installation, properly matched components, registration of the equipment after install, and documented routine maintenance. If a compressor or a control board fails in year seven, the service record is what supports the claim.

Every Comfort Club visit is written up and kept on file, which gives you that record without having to track it yourself.

Questions Homeowners Ask About HVAC Tune-Ups

  • What is included in a furnace tune up?

A furnace tune-up includes a heat exchanger inspection, a carbon monoxide and combustion safety test, gas pressure and piping checks, burner and flame sensor cleaning, ignition and safety control testing, blower and airflow inspection, electrical and voltage checks, venting and flue inspection, thermostat verification, a temperature rise measurement, and an air filter check. VO Heating and Cooling works through that written list on every heating visit in Thornton and the north Denver metro.

  • How much does a furnace tune up cost?

The VO Comfort Club covers two professional tune-ups a year, one heating and one cooling, for $350 annually, plus priority scheduling, a reduced diagnostic fee, 10% off repairs, and up to $500 off new equipment. A single-visit tune-up can also be scheduled by phone at 720-687-3822, and we will quote it before we come out.

  • How often should I get my AC tuned up?

Once a year, in spring, before the first stretch of hot weather. Annual cooling maintenance keeps the refrigerant charge, capacitor, condenser coil, and condensate drain in check, and those four items cause most mid-summer breakdowns.

  • How long does an HVAC tune-up take?

Plan on about an hour to 90 minutes for a single system in good condition. A visit runs longer if the coil needs heavy cleaning, if readings come back out of range and need to be traced, or if you have more than one system in the home.

  • Is a tune-up worth it on an older furnace or AC?

Yes, and often more so. On a system past 12 years, the tune-up is where you learn whether the heat exchanger and safety controls are still sound and how much life the equipment realistically has left. If it turns out to be at the end of its run, we give you a free estimate on replacement rather than selling repairs into a unit that will not make another winter.
